Installing Linux.

I've got some time to kill right now because I'm installing Linux on my other machine. I got so fed up with Mirosoft Windows that I stuck my spare hard drive in my winbox and I'm installing Linux on it. I've been running Windows 98 for a couple of years now with fairly constant problems, rating about 4-6 on the aggrevation scale. I had an older version of Internet Explorer and I just upgraded to 6 point whatever, that they have out now. After "upgrading" IE crashes on a regular basis. I'll start typing a URL into the location field and the screen goes black. How fucking sweet is that. Haha. I can't really go back to the old version. The only real option I have is to "upgrade" to Windows XP or some other shitty Microsoft product. I'm sick of it. If someone was willing to pay my bills and the development costs, I would devote my life to creating a new operating system that would make Windows its bitch. I've already got some interesting ideas on the basic nature of an OS and how it can be improved. The trouble is that hardware is constantly changing and it would be a pretty steep learning curve to get caught up with all the interfaces and protocols. Hmm, well... I still have hope for Linux.

Work.

I'm starting to feel like the work I do is... not interesting. Well, it's kinda interesting, but it would be a lot more fun to write embedded software that powers toy robots or something more tangible. Right now I spend months writing software and only a handful of people are even aware of its existence. It's not like I can point to something and say, "I did that." The closest I come to that is when I set LEDs on the base station or the CPE. That's like the highlight of my job, when I set the LEDs a certain way and I can walk through the lab and recognize the way the LEDs are blinking as my work. How sad is that. I wonder if there are any companys in San Diego that make robotic toys or something along those lines. I'd feel a lot better about producing something I could see people enjoy. I wonder how many people are using something that I had a hand in creating. I'll bet if you count the Qualcomm base station and our trials in Japan right now it'd be over 100,000. I guess that's something. LOL.

Photos.

All my photos from 2002 (up until now) are up. I still have a lot from 2001 and earlier that are offline, but I've got everything set up now so it's pretty easy to transfer them to my linux box. Finally! We'll see how long I can live with this design before my opinion of it sours and I rip it apart again. *sigh*

Google.

Googlebot finally got around to indexing my page. It's not like there are millions of people trying to find my webpage (with no success until now) but it's nice to know I'm connected and not just a lone island of random information.

Elevated.

New pictures up from a little party at Mission Bay. Good music, friends, and food in beautiful San Diego. What more can you ask for.

Photos.

I put together some photos from last Christmas. I still don't have a link to my photos page, but here's a temporary one: photos. I have more pictures that are waiting to go online, but it takes time that would otherwise be spent sleeping.

Weekend.

Whew. Pretty crazy weekend. I spent a large portion of it with friends from SDRavers. Oddly enough I'm feeling refreshed and ready for work. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.
