Outsourcing.

I've read quite a bit about the outsourcing of tech jobs to India. In fact my friend Albert is, at this very moment, in India training the developers there how to do our jobs. There is a very real possibility that the software engineer career path is becoming obsolete domestically. This is obviously worrisome for people like myself who get paid ten times as much as our Indian counterparts. There exists a manifest imbalance in the two economies. The universe abhors imbalance and we should expect to see the Indian economy rise to our sinking economy. But I don't buy into the argument that outsourcing is good for the U.S. economy. If anything, I think the U.S. economy is overinflated compared to the rest of the world due in large part to the technological revolution that took place here. We might be overdo for an inevitable correction, but the effects of that correction will be felt by everyone to a much greater extent than just the loss of a few high tech jobs.

Starting now.

I decided that it's important for me to write something every day, no matter how pedestrian the writing. I'm seized by a feeling (usually on my runs when I have the most time for self-reflection) that I do not make enough of an effort to crystallize my thoughts into an expressible medium. My inner thoughts do not easily translate into verbal communication, but my hope is that writing them down will at least be a step in the right direction. So it begins with this essentially hollow message.

Salon and the video of Nick Berg's murder.

Salon recently posted the video of Nick Berg's murder on their site. The response by readers was split between those who approved and those who were appalled. This is my response to the letters denouncing Salon for posting the video.

This question of the media's responsibility to censor itself is fascinating. I for one am grateful to Salon for making the video available (with appropriate warnings,) although I myself had no desire to watch it. My response to readers who disagreed with Salon's decision to post the video is twofold. First, I do not believe that Salon actively exploited the video by posting it on their site. And thus I do not believe that this action caused Nick Berg's family additional distress. Second, I do not want the editors of Salon to shield me from information that they deem too unsettling. EVER.

The information you seek is out there. If you search for it, be prepared to stomach a bitter pill.

Coachella.

I put pictures from our weekend at Coachella online. We had a really great time despite the heat. The highlights were Seb Fontaine, Mark Farina, 2 many djs, and of course Radiohead. In other news I'm still looking for a job. Ensemble shut its doors a little over a month ago. It was a disappointing end of an era. Oh well.
